Think about it:
Some berries are good, some berries are bad.
Some berries that look good are not good.
Sometimes the berries that look squishy and borderline rotten are actually the sweetest berries.
Sometimes the last berry you ate was so sour you quickly devoured three more, only to finish with another sour...
Sometimes you have eaten a whole bowlful of berries, some good and some very good, and then the last berry you eat is disgusting.
Sometimes you have a berry that is so delicious you don't want to eat any other berries, for fear that they will never measure up.
Sometimes you look and look and look through the bowl to find a good berry with no results, so you start eating the other berries and find out that they're not so bad.
Sometimes after you've eaten the other berries that you didn't think would taste so good, you find a very delicious berry at the bottom of the bowl.
Sometimes if you are greedy, you try to pick only the juiciest berries from the bush. The result is stained fingers from rotten berries, lots of juicy berries on the ground, and loads of scratches on your forearms.
Once in awhile you will see a berry that has ripened to perfection, and it is still strong enough to be plucked from the bush and popped into your mouth. Sometimes it will be a delightful, juicy, sweet berry... and other times you have just eaten a worm.
Sometimes you get stung while you are trying to pick berries.
Sometimes you eat so many berries while you are picking, you have almost nothing to show for your work in the bowl.
Saving very good, juicy berries does no good. They must be eaten, or they will rot.
The moral? Keep picking. Keep looking for the better berry at the bottom of the bowl. Enjoy the decent berries as you look for the almighty perfect berry. Sometimes a good berry is worth a little scratch, or a little sting. Sometimes you have to put on a little protection to go after the berry you want. Sometimes the berry you thought you wanted ends up being a gross berry. And sometimes the berry you really, really wanted is dashed to the ground in a big juicy splat.
But do not despair. There is always another berry to be picked.
