The morning of August 31, 2006 came early. If I remember correctly, it was a Thursday, and Josh and I were both off from work... although strangely enough, his alarm went off at 5:30. I remember waking with a great start, as always, because my beloved husband requires a considerable amount of volume to disturb his slumber, and I felt really annoyed that he had "accidentally" set his alarm on a day that he was off. I tried to ignore it, and when he turned it off I breathed a deep sigh of relief. Just as I was about to turn over and pursue another several hours of sleep, he nudged me.

"Wake up! It's time to get up!" Thinking he was confused, I assumed he thought I had slept through my own alarm. I reminded him that we were both off........ (duh!). He said, "Get up, we're going to be late!" Again, neither of us was scheduled to work that day, so I said something like, "FOR WHAT?!" in an annoyed voice. He said, "For the Yankees game!"
Well, now he had my attention. He explained that he had bought us tickets for a bus tour in secret, and that we had to be at the mall by 7:30 to catch the bus. I jumped out of bed. In fact, I think I jumped ON the bed, because I was so surprised and happy. I ran to the shower and just smiled my face off as I was shampooing. I kept randomly yelling, "Yay!! We're going to a Yankees game, yay!!" We stopped at Dunkin' Donuts on the way to meet the bus, and just had a really great time at the game. We arrived early enough to explore Monument Park (see the picture above), which I had never had the privilege of doing before. The Yankees beat the Tigers in a game where the stadium erupted as A-Rod hit a home run, we saw Joe Torre lumber out to the mound where Randy Johnson had pitched a great game, and we heard Enter Sandman blasted over the PA system as Mariano Rivera shut down the Detroit lineup. It was just. So. Fun.
Oh, and here's Josh pretending to look like a Yankees fan, but wearing a non-commital "N.Y." hat because he was actually rooting for the team across town....
