I have been losing my hair. By the handful. It is INSANE how much hair I am losing. I brush it before I get in the shower to pull out the loose ones ahead of time; there is basically no point to this. As I wash my hair in the shower, I pull out bunches of strands at a time. When I comb out my hair after the shower, I get a combful and a handful again. And when I blowdry, I get handful after handful to put in the garbage can, not to mention the hairs that end up on the floor. I hadn't noticed it as I look in the mirror or anything, but I did just look at a picture of myself from several weeks ago, and I can actually see that my hair was MUCH thicker - just weeks ago! I had been thinking that it doesn't look as healthy lately, though. Now I know why.
I asked the midwife about this. She explained that all of the hair on your body goes through cycles of growth and dormancy. When you are pregnant, ALL of your hairs grow faster and thicker at the same time (which explains the increase in the peach fuzz on your prego belly!). When you deliver your child, ALL of your hairs go into a dormant state, so they fall out at a much higher rate. I asked her how long until it will return to normal. She said, "Oh, six to eight months."
I'll be bald by then.

i went through it- it was frustrating. I left hair everywhere i went. But now I don't have that issue anymore, and I'm finally getting some re-growth. I'm with you, babe... it's no fun.
I have noticed that i have these 'new' hairs on my head, right where I part my hair to the side and where my bangs start. So it sort of looks like I decided to cut myself new bangs on the side. (Basically if I were a man, that is where I would start to lose my hair on the side like that.) So I told the hair-cutter-guy and he was like, oh how old is your oldest? When did you stop breastfeeding? your new hair is coming in. Wonderful. Last summer I had my hair up all the time because if I would run my hands through it, it came out. Just another sign of motherhood.
