I think the difference between grandparents and parents when it comes to kids making messes and how messes don't bother grandparents is this: when you're a grandparent, the grandkids eventually leave, and you have all the time in the world to clean up their spaghetti hands from your table or their toast crumbs from your floor. But when you are a parent, the kids never leave, and your house is only as clean as you can keep it while they are around (which is not very clean). We are desperately clinging to whatever degree of cleanliness we currently have, because we know it aint gonna get any better till someone moves out. :)
