I don't really have much to blog about today. Today has been sort of a blah day, the highlight of which was that I only had to work 8 hours instead of 12. And while we are on that subject, I am switching to 8 hour days permanently, starting May 13. Ha, I say permanently... I will still be required to work 12s on the weekend, but in so doing will only work every third weekend instead of every other. (This is nothing new; it's our unit policy.)
Not that working every other would be so bad, seeing how Josh works every other, and if you are any sort of mathematician it is probably easy for you to figure out that by one of us working every two weekends and one of us working every three, we are often on opposite schedules on the weekends, with the exception of a blissful three weekends in a row when we fall into sync for a time, be it ever so short.
With both of us working 12 hour shifts, you would have thought that we'd have lots of days off together and lots of days working at the same time, but unfortunately that isn't always how it works. Josh switches from 12 hour days to 12 hour nights all the time, and I only ever work days. So, once again, if your IQ is only a few points above 64, you are able to figure out that it is possible for me to work 7a-7p and him to work 7p-7a and for us to go days in a row without ever seeing each other. And when it comes to days off, what good is a day off together if one of us has to spend half of it sleeping?
This is starting to make me annoyed, ha.
So my solution to this and other blogworthy problems is to switch to 8 hour shifts. Yes, I'll have to work more frequently, but I will be home for dinner every night and should never have to go an entire 24 hours without seeing Josh for a least a little while. I sure hope it makes a difference. I am thinking it will be especially wonderful this summer to sprint for the door around 3:30 and still have a decent amount of day (and daylight) left.

How in the world did you get lucky enough to work only days?
Ah, it's a day/rotation position, but I've never been floated to nights. I have, however, worked more than my share of evenings, but I don't really mind. And with 12 hour shifts, it's either days OR nights, and we apparently have plenty of night people. In order to get 8 hour days, I had to agree to work a bunch of evenings to cover the spread in the middle. I just needed a change, mostly.
You worked a bunch of nights to
cover the spread in the middle??
Didn't work, did it?
I love you,
Gram
